Interpet’s monthly service kit provides 3 plain foam replacement pads for your power filter (PF1 or PF2). The foam pads remove patricles and waste from your aquariums water to help to keep water crystal clear and healthy.

The power filter can be used in both cold water and tropical aquariums. It is recommended to change the pads in your filter every 6 months.

The manufacturer provides the following information on the science behind using the PF filter within your aquarium:

Mechanical filtration is the term used to describe the removal of particulate waste from the aquarium. This includes uneaten food, dead plant matter, fish waste and surfactants such as dust. In your PF filter, the filter foam provides the mechanical filtration.

With less comprehensive filters, these foams would also be providing biological and possible chemical filtration. This would prevent you from being able to fully clean them when they become clogged, as to do so would remove essential bacteria from the foam.

However, as the PF filter has separate biological and chemical filtration areas, this is not a problem. When the foams become blocked, simply clean them thoroughly in warm water to prevent loss of flow rate.
